In Admin > Courses > Grading, you can enable predefined grading scales, which can then be used in course task settings. A scale can be applied to a Returnbox task, the Follow-up block, the Journal, and to Discussion blocks marked as mandatory.
A grading scale can also be used when assigning the course final grade. In manual grading, all available grading scales can be applied.
The grading scale used in the Tests block and in automatic course grading is always 1–5 or Fail.

You can create new grading scales in the environment as needed using the Add new grading scale function. Each grade field can contain either a word or a number. If you want a specific grade to indicate a fail, you must mark it as failed.

A grading scale must be created in full at once: all necessary grades should be added and named during creation. As long as the scale is not yet in use, both the name and the individual grades can be edited. In this case, the grading scale can also be deleted.
Once a grading scale has been applied to a task or a course, it can no longer be edited or deleted.
If you later want to stop using a custom grading scale, you can deactivate it so that it is no longer available for selection in tasks or courses. Learners who have already received grades using that scale will still see their grades in the original format.
Learners may receive different types of grades for the same task if the grading scale in use is changed during the course.
Using course grades as a rule for group composition or progression on a learning path
Learners can be automatically grouped based on the course grades they have received. The dynamic group rule “Course completed” allows you to define a condition based on a specific grade.
In a learning path, the course grade can be used as a condition in the progression rules.
Integration Considerations When Using a Custom Grading Scale
In the REST API and Sympa integrations, the grade is sent as-is. If custom grading scales are used, corresponding translations must be added in Sympa as needed.
In customised integrations, new custom grading scales are not included by default or may function incompletely. Therefore, the integration code must be modified to support them. Please contact Priima Helpdesk before implementing a new grading scale.
