Courses can be set as required courses for its members. If one of the courses assigned to you is a Required course, you will then see the Required course tag on the dashboard in the course card. The required courses are typically mandatory courses, the completion of which can be monitored in separate reports.
In terms of completion, the required course is practically no different from a regular course. Courses whose completions are monitored more closely than other courses are typically marked as required courses. It is a good idea to prioritize the completion of these courses in your study plan.
