Test and question database are created in the Materials section. After the creation the tests can be used in the courses.
Question database and creating a test
When creating questions, they are always associated with a question database, which is essentially a question bank. Question databases can be pre-created, for example, based on topics. There are two ways to create a question bank and a test:
- Create a question database and add questions to it. Then create a test and select questions from the question database. (If needed, additional questions can also be created for the test, which will be saved in the same question database.) OR
- Create a test and create questions to the test, when these questions will also be added to the question database.

The question base can contain both multiple-choice and open-ended questions. The same open-ended questions can be used in both the automatic assessment test and the separate test assessed by the examiner.
Appropriate settings and completion rules are always set for a test, making it possible to use the same questions to carry out tests with different settings and rules.
You can create multiple tests with different settings and completion rules from the same question database. Additionally, if needed, you can easily select all questions from the question database at once using mass selection for the test.
Once the test is created, it can be added to the course as a content block. The same test can be used in multiple different courses if desired.
Permissions of the question database
The permissions for a database can be defined so that it is either private or public. A private bank can only be viewed by the owner. Access to a public bank is granted to all users with the permission level ‘User has access to the trainer dashboard and the ability to create tests.
Eligible users can pick questions from the database for their own tests and they will see the database in their own question database list. If the setting is Public and editable, users with that authorization level setting can also edit the database.
Similarly, a test may have a shared right for the desired user and users to use the test in their own courses, as well as the right to modify the test if necessary.
Copying question database
The question database can be copied. This allows for using a question database containing many questions as a basis for creating a new one while preserving the original question database. It’s important to note that if changes are made to a question database that one or more tests use, those changes will affect existing tests.
By copying the question database, you can construct new tests using updated questions, ensuring that tests already in use in courses remain unchanged.
